HELP! What are.exe files?!?

Basically my friend was trying to help her cousin to see if there was a way to hack into Myspace, you know, just for fun cos they were bored or whatever. Anyway, she Googled it and came to some forum that had steps to do it so she tried it, then she read that the person then said " i got you guys, if you followed those steps now your .exe files wont open mahaha " . Now her computer is meseed up. Her music is gone, no limewire.. no links...(they all are broken links) and she cant get on the internet.

What are .exe files and is there anyway she herself can fix this?!

Data files for modifying the Windows Registry have the file extension .reg Various authors have come up with .reg (Registry) files to restore the proper contents of the .exe entry. Somewhat often, you can rename the Registry Editor program to another type of executable by changing its name from Regedit.exe to Regedit.com and then you can edit the Registry. But edit it to what? If the Registry entry for .reg files has not been maliciously modified, it is easier to download the appropriate .reg file for your version of Windows and then double click the file name in order to fix the .exe entry.

exe files are the executable files either on windows or files you download. Almost everything is executable with software you use like Internet Explorer (iexplore.exe). More than likely you could be looking at reinstalling windows to fix this.

Looks like her computer is effected by a mild spyware or virus. Tell her to download an antivirus(http://www.freeav.com/) and antispyware(http://www.spybot.info/) and run a scan.

Anyway, exe files are executables. They can be used for different purposes. Many files that you use on your computer are exe files.

These are the basic files you can double click %26amp; they will open up %26amp; there you have a program. The other files are usually parts of this program, or extra files. Some .exe files open, but you have to be running another program 1st. Try running system restore, Start (lower left corner)- Programs- Accessories- System Restore- System Restore. Pick a date before the mess, to restore your PC back to what it was like then.
